Found Photo: Deutsches Architekturmuseum Architectural Model – Tool, Fetish, Small Utopia - Approximately 300 models are currently on display at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) in Frankfurt, Germany, as part of the exhibition "Architectural Model – Tool, Fetish, Small Utopia". DAM bills the show as a worldwide first, in its attempt to "systematically study the opportunities afforded by models in terms of experimenting, impressing the observer and producing small-scale artworks." Ductal refers to its high-performance panels as "a mineral material between concrete and metal," and here they achieved the wavy, plant-like appearance the architects desired. Found Photo: Luke Hayes, courtesy Serpentine Gallery Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2012 - On June 1 the 12th Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London opened for the Summer 2012 season. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and Chinese artist and architect Ai Weiwei, the pavilion digs underground to supposedly reveal the foundations of the previous pavilions. Cork lines the excavated space, below a slightly pitched roof topped with water. Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron were on hand for the opening, but not Ai Weiwei, whose well-known troubles with Chinese authorities restrict his travels.  jh   Headlines World's "Tallest Tower" Opens On May 22 the Tokyo Skytree Tower opened. The world's tallest free-standing broadcasting tower includes two observation decks open to the public.
