Building Review | | (Photo: Pu Miao) | The Sichang-Road Teahouse, Kunshan, China - Kunshan is a town in the Yangtze River Delta near Shanghai. Many of the old canals in the city are converted into six-lane streets. For local residents it is difficult to find an atmospheric spot which reflects the former close relationship between nature and the urban environment in the historic downtown. The teahouse discussed here is located in a new high-density residential area in a western suburb of the old city of Kunshan. It was built on a linear 40 to 50-metre wide river park that accompanies the street. Opposite the street, the urban structure with stores and markets on the ground floor is the counterpart to the public park. | | | | Agenda | 24 to 26 May, Clerkenwell, London | Clerkenwell Design Week more | | | | 25 May, Universität Liechtenstein, Vaduz | Walter Angonese, Lecture more | | | | 26 May, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York | Designing the Whitney of the Future, Exhibition Opening more | | | | 26 to 28 May, Wien | Tschechische Architekturtage 2011 more | | | | 26 to 28 May, Place Bonaventure, Montréal | SIDIM 2011: Interior Design Show Montreal, Fair more | | | | until 3 June, Extension Gallery, Chicago | Changing Room: Installation by Easton+Combs more | | | | until 3 July, Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt am Main | Richard Neutra in Europe: Buildings and Projects 1960–1970, Exhibition more | | | | | | | Jobs | Experienced Allround Architects | UNStudio, Amsterdam more | | | | Urban Design Leader | McGregor Coxall, Sydney more | | | | Senior Project Manager for Hospitality and Residential Interiors | Craig Nealy International Ltd., New York more | | | | Senior Quantity Surveyor | Spacial Solutions International GmbH, Kigali (Rwanda) more | | | | Architect/ Designer for PR Area | dellekamp arquitectos, México D.F. more | | | | Marketing Manager | RFR Shanghai, Shanghai more | | | | Taiwanese Intermediate Architects | spatial practice, Beijing more | | | | ProjektleiterIn | caruso st. john architects, London more | | | | ArchitektIn | Hochschule Luzern - Technik & Architektur, Luzern more | | | | Architekt/in Südtirol/Italien gesucht | pedevilla architekten, Bruneck more | | | | | | Architecture by Numbers Number of panels of clear prismatic glass and welded aluminum screens that were ordered in China to disguise the 185-foot-tall fortified concrete base of 1 World Trade Center (formerly Freedom Tower) in New York City so it does not look like a gigantic bunker: 2000 By René Ammann | For any kind of feedback, please contact the editor in charge: Sarah Mai.
